01 Capabilities

Six disciplines, one contractor.

Everything below is done by our own engineers, start to finish. The person who surveys the job designs it; the engineers who install it test it, and our Qualified Supervisor signs it off. No layers of subcontractors between you and the electrical work.

01

Electrical & Data Installations

Lighting and power, designed around how the building is actually used — from a warehouse re-light to a single room at home. We run the data cabling and Wi-Fi at the same time, so you get one tidy installation instead of three visits.

02

Fire & Security Systems

Fire detection and alarm systems designed, installed and maintained to BS 5839 — we hold BAFE SP203-1, the third-party certification for exactly this work. On the security side: CCTV, access control, door entry and intercoms, plus emergency lighting designed and tested to BS 5266.

03

EV Charging Installation

Home, workplace and fleet charge points. We survey first — free — because the right answer depends on your incoming supply, not the brochure. We fit proven chargers backed by UK support desks that actually answer, and we maintain what we install. We're OZEV-authorised, so if your property or workplace qualifies for a chargepoint grant we handle the paperwork.

Solar & Renewable Energy

Solar panels, inverters and battery storage, sized to how you actually use electricity rather than to a sales target. We are MCS certified — the government-backed standard your export payments depend on — and RECC registered.

05

Electrical Maintenance & Support

Planned maintenance to stop faults before they stop you, and engineers on the phone when something breaks anyway. We also fit automation and smart controls — lighting, heating and security that adjust themselves instead of waiting for someone to remember.

06

Inspection & Testing (EICRs)

An EICR is the periodic safety inspection your insurer, landlord licence or mortgage lender asks about. We test the installation against BS 7671 — the wiring regulations — tell you plainly what's wrong, what can wait, and what it will cost to put right.

It acts as the digital logbook for your fire alarm — the weekly test recorded in the portal, in place of the paper logbook nobody can ever find.

“I needed some plug sockets in my elderly mother's bedroom after she came out of hospital. As it is an old house they tested everything first and then got the job done to a much higher standard than we had imagined possible! What kindness and what service. I can't recommend the team enough.”

Customer in Caerphilly County BoroughWhich? Trusted Trader review
“Very pleased with this company from start to finish. They did an excellent job fitting bathroom extractor fans. We were notified of costs, arranged dates to fit them within a couple of weeks and received all paper work required. A faulty part was quickly replaced. I have used CJS again for further electrical work and am pleased to have found a reliable company.”
Customer in CardiffWhich? Trusted Trader review
“CJS was extremely easy to deal with. I dealt with Jake for organising the appointment, and he was extremely helpful and managed to get us a technician on site the next day when we returned home from holiday to find our electricity was out. The technician was with us early and managed to fault-find and solve the majority of our issues despite it being extremely complex in nature. Can't recommend them enough, reasonable, timely, and great work.”
Customer in Pen-y-bont ar OgwrWhich? Trusted Trader review
“I contacted CJS to get a quote for re-wiring our garage. They had someone out within days and had the quote fully detailed later that day. … When the guys turned up to do the job they were incredibly friendly, were here when they said they would be and could not have done a better job - everything was so tidy and left in great order. Cannot recommend them highly enough.”

07 About CJS

Why choose CJS Electrical.

We're a family firm, based in Cardiff since Chris started CJS in 1987. We're big enough to run a housing association's maintenance programme and small enough that the person who priced your job answers the phone while it's running.

Our own directly employed engineers do the electrical work. That matters more than it sounds: the standard set at the survey is the standard on the certificate, because it's the same people all the way through. Our engineers are DBS-checked — it matters in schools, care settings and tenanted homes — and we keep every accreditation current and audited, so you never have to take our word for the quality: someone independent has already checked.

08 Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Yes. CJS Electrical is a NICEIC Approved Contractor, which means our work is assessed against BS 7671 — the UK wiring regulations — by the UK's leading certification body for the electrical contracting industry. We are also MCS certified via NICEIC for solar PV and battery storage, and hold ECA, TrustMark, RECC, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe, BAFE and Which? Trusted Trader accreditations.

We do. We're based in Cardiff and we work across the whole of Wales and the South West of England — commercial, industrial, agricultural, education and social housing. Clients range from individual homeowners to local authorities, housing associations and blue-chip organisations. For the right project we'll travel further; it costs nothing to ask.

Yes. An Electrical Installation Condition Report assesses the safety, condition and compliance of an existing installation and identifies issues before they become major problems. We carry these out for homeowners, landlords, letting agents and commercial property managers, and issue the report you need for your records. For landlords an EICR is a legal requirement — in Wales and England, renewed at least every five years. Own more than one property? Send us the list: we'll schedule them together and remind you before they're due.

We design, install and maintain charge points for domestic, commercial, workplace and fleet use. We offer a free site survey to establish what your incoming supply will support and how many charge points can be installed, and we fit proven chargers backed by UK support desks that actually answer. We're also an OZEV-authorised installer — so if your building qualifies under the current grant schemes (the EV chargepoint grant for flats and rented properties, or the Workplace Charging Scheme for businesses) we handle the paperwork.

Yes — we are MCS certified via NICEIC for both solar PV and battery storage, and registered with RECC, the consumer protection scheme for renewable energy. We design and fit the full system — panels, inverters and batteries — and we handle the maintenance and paperwork for all of it.

We run both planned preventative maintenance programmes and reactive maintenance for commercial, education and social housing clients — including fire alarm and emergency lighting testing, fixed wire testing and periodic inspection. Tell us what your portfolio looks like and we will scope a programme around it. You get the certification and test records for every visit, filed per property, so your compliance evidence is audit-ready.

Maintenance contract clients get the CJS client portal. You can track your own maintenance and compliance status, download certificates, O&M documentation and reports, and see the next due dates for testing and compliance works reported back to you. It also acts as a digital logbook for fire alarms, so the weekly test is recorded in the portal instead of a paper logbook. It is live with contract clients now and we are rolling it out more widely — ask us about it when we scope your programme.

Call the office on 029 2068 9339, email enquiries@cjselectrical.co.uk, or complete the enquiry form on this page — we reply within one working day. Quotes and surveys for quoted work are free; attending a fault is chargeable, and we'll tell you the rate before we come out. We will confirm what we need to see, arrange a survey where the work requires one, and put the detail in writing.

Out-of-hours and 24-hour callouts are available at our discretion. We won't promise a guaranteed response time we can't always keep — but if you're in trouble, call 029 2068 9339 and we'll do our best to get an engineer to you. If you're a maintenance-contract client, ask us about an agreed response time when we scope your programme.
